How long is the whole “Custom Portraiture” process?

Clients usually book a month or two in advance.  Occasionally we can also accommodate last minute bookings so please call just in case.  A week or so before your session you will have your Pre-Session Planning Consultation.  About 10 days after your portrait session you will come back into the studio to place your order.  Your order goes immediately into production as we provide custom edits and create your print and product order.  Orders generally take 4 – 6 weeks depending on the products ordered.   This means from the time you book to the time you pick up your order the minimum amount of time span is usually 8 weeks.  In a hurry?  Rush options are available for an additional fee.

How long will my session last?

This depends on the type of session. Usually pets and families with small children last about 45 minutes to an hour but we ask that you schedule 90 minutes.  Newborns, cake smashes and baby sessions can take longer and headshots and business portraits are scheduled for a shorter time.

Where will the session take place?

We photograph most sessions at the studio but are happy to come to your home if you have abundant natural light.  We also love to photograph families and children outside and have a list of recommended areas that work well for outdoor sessions.  Outdoor sessions are usually scheduled very early or very late in the day so please book early if considering one of these times.  They are always in popular demand.   Pets are more easily contained in the studio and more safe than being off leash in a public place.  That’s your call as it can also be great fun to have pets outside in a more natural setting.  Headshots and Business Portraiture can be done at our place or yours.  The fees for on location headshots vary or require a minimum number of subjects to be photographed.

What should I wear?

Not to worry, when you book your session you’ll receive a Studio Welcome Guide that gives you information and ideas that make it easy to assemble a wardrobe for you and for your family.  We walk you through everything from what makeup look is best to mixing patterns and coordinating clothing.

Do you offer “Mini-Sessions”?

We do offer shorter sessions that we refer to as “Limited Edition” sessions.  These are offered throughout the year and have a specific theme and usually a custom-designed set just for that Limited Edition.  They always have a maximum number we can accommodate and they tend to book up very quickly.  The best way to find out about them early is to subscribe to our blog, Like our Facebook page or subscribe to our newsletter.  Newsletter subscribers are always given a few days advance notice before we release the bookings to the general public.

Eek!  Christmas/Valentine’s Day/My Anniversary is right around the corner!

Yikes is right!  So I wouldn’t delay on booking when you first thing about it.  July is not too early to shoot your holiday family portraits.  Sessions completed by October 15th and orders placed by November 1st will be returned in time for Christmas.  Hanukkah may fall earlier so you can back up those dates accordingly.  We photograph for Valentine’s Day (especially Boudoir Sessions) in November and December.

What if I just want to have my kids/pets photographed?

I understand that thought, I hear it a lot.  Some of our Limited Edition sessions are in fact designed as such.  But let’s say you’ve investing in a full session and don’t want to be in the photographs.  For a moment leave out thinking if you “want” to be in the photographs and instead ask yourself,  are you “willing” to be in some of the photographs?  We have no idea how important these photographs will be to someone else.  Now.  Later.  It’s a gift you take the time to give yourself or someone you love.  Even if you’re one of those people that think “I hate having my picture taken”, you might decide to do it because you know how important it will be for someone else to have it.  When you review the portraits in your order appointment you are not obligated to purchase any you don’t want.  But I say better to have it and not want it then to want it and not have it.

What if I need to cancel my session?

Your session retainer holds your session time exclusively for you.  Once you book we take that date off of the calendar and do not take any backup bookings during that time.  As such, session fee retainers are non-refundable.  If you cancel with 48 hours or more notice that fee can be applied to another session, provided we reschedule when notice of cancellation is given.

What else should I know?

When you book your session you will be asked to sign a Studio and Model Release and Studio Policies agreement.  As an artist, I will only photograph those who sign a model release as I may use the images I create to promote the studio, in advertising, in marketing materials, for training purposes, contests or exhibitions or in numerous other ways.  With boudoir sessions it is always your choice whether I share your images including your face or not.  For minors, a parent or legal guardian’s signature is required.
